During July 2003, I traveled to central Mexico on business. While I had been to Tijuana, this time I was able to see a more realistic Mexico. I spent the first part of my trip working in Torreon. Torreon is primarily an industrial city of nearly 500,000. If you should find yourself in Torreon, make a side trip to the park in Lerdo (adjacent town) for Mexico's best ice cream! You can get a great view of the city from the "Cristo de las Noas", a smaller version of the statue in Brazil. The second week was in San Luis Potosi. On the Sunday between, I toured the San Luis Potosi "Centro" with my host. SLP was settled over 350 years ago by the Spanish and was a mining city. It is slightly larger at over 500,000 population. Take the time to walk around the downtown (Centro). There is a wonderful mixture of old buildings, magnificent churches and well kept parks and plazas.
In September, I headed back to Mexico. This trip was to Torreon, Guadalajara and San Luis Potosi. On Sunday in the middle of the trip, I toured around Guadalajara with my host. Here are some pictures I took in the Guadalajara "Centro". We had lunch at La Feria - Restaurant Bar y Amigos at Corona No 291 (esq Heroes), Col Centrol C.P. Good food and we were treated to a typical Guadalajara show, complete with 12 piece mariachi band. Shows are at 3:30 and 10:00. While in Mexico, I worked with some great people. They helped make my visit a real pleasure.
