Several times I had driven US 50 through Southern Colorado but never took the time to check out the Black Canyon. When planning my May 2015 trip to New Mexico, I decided to tour the area.  I was staying in Gunnison, about 60 miles from the canyon.  My first full day in Gunnison was drizzling rain.  Hoping there might be some breaks in the rain, I drove over to the National Park.  The desk clerk at my hotel suggested to doing the South rim, which I did.

As you can see from the photos, the weather did not cooperate.  The opther problem I was having was the altitude - the park is at about 8000 ft.  The altitude kept me from doing any hiking.  Took photos mostly at or close to the car,

Two days later, I was traveling past the canyon on my way to Northwest New Mexico.  Sunny morning so drove the park road and took a few more photos  Most of the view points ended uo looking into the sun.  So, I am impressed with the canyon, but not the photos I took.
