Another day not conducive to bicycle riding, I headed South the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge.  The snow geese and many other birds have left.  Was disappointed to see there were no snow geese there.  Quick drive and some photos, I had time to find the Very Large Array.

The Very Large Array is a facility if the National Radio Astronomy Observatory.  It is located in western New Mexico about 50 miles west of Socorro on the Plains of San Agustin.

The array consists 27 antennas in a "Y" configuration.  Each dish is 82 feet in diameter.  While I was there, the array was in a close in "C" configuration.  When deployed in the largest configuration, the array acts like one dish 22 miles across!
