In January 2011, I played tourist into Jemez mountains.  There, I found the Valles Caldera Preserve. The caldera is the reminants of a super volcano,  The weather was not conducive to exploring and the preserve was closed from private vehicles/

The caldera is now adminstered by the National Park Service.  Taking a day off of unpacking, I headed back up to Valles Caldera National Preserve.  Drove most of the road that was open to the general public and shot a lot of photos.  The preserve allows 35 private vehicles a day past the visitor's center.  Get an early start if you want to drive the preserve road.
