I call this page "Georgia O'Keeffe Country" because it was her name and reputation as an artist that caused me to drive into NorthCentral New Mexico to see what was special about the area and the place call "Ghost Ranch". The story is much larger than O'Keeffe and her love of the area and ranch.

When I first heard about the Ghost Ranch, I mistakenly thought the ranch was O'Keeffe's property.  But, the Ghost Ranch history goes to the 1920's.  It was struggling dude ranch in the high desert of New Mexico.  The rich and famous came out from the East to spent time on the ranch.  Georgia O'Keeffe fell into the area and ended up spending much of her time there painting.

For the story about the Ghost Ranch, I suggest reading "Ghost Ranch" by Lesley Poling-Kempes.  For more about Georgia O'Keeffs's work, check out this Artsy page.

The Ghost Ranch now is an Education and Retreat Center owned by the Presbyterian Church.  Functions are not restricted to members of the church.  I just made a short visit to the ranch, finding out where it is and what it offers.  Once I settle in New Mexico, I will be back to explore more of the ranch and what it has to offer.

Photos of the area around the ranch.
